Re: Sleeping, diapers, and clothes

I don't wear anything over my diapers when I sleep. Sometimes a t-shirt if it is cold but usually I just make sure I'm covered up and a towel or two underneath me "just in case." So far I think a grand total of one time I've ever had a leak. I tend to bounce around between the Abena X-Plus and Bambino.

As far as emergency situations, I keep a pair of pajama pants on the end table next to the bed. That way I can step into them in a second or two and be on my way. I also have a flannel bathrobe hanging just inside the closet so I can grab that too. There are very few emergency situations in which you won't have 5-10 seconds to cover your diapers up. Worst comes to worst just bring your blanket with you and cover up with that.

Make sure you're wearing a good diaper (either cloth or disposable) and make sure you have a backup plan in case of leaks. For me the bath towels work pretty good. You don't want anything that is a pain to launder. Best part is with the towels if I do wake up and find that my diaper has leaked, I can just shift positions and go back to sleep. Not really possible with damp, clingy clothes.

For me, cloth is not an option because of discretion needs. I can't consistently launder my diapers without being seen. Disposables mean that nobody needs to know about my problem who doesn't have any business knowing.

Inconguy: If you already have pin-on cloth diapers, I suggest getting some Snappis fasteners (http://www.snappibaby.com/products/snap ... tener.html) They are marketed for baby cloth diapers, but they stretch a lot. So if you wear a sm-med adult cloth you can use just one. If you are larger you can use 2 of them (one on each side) in place of pins. I have found they hold more tightly than pins and are easier to put on.

I sleep on my stomach, use a Abena M-4 or Wellness brief and a pair of high back plastic pants over it and just my undershirt on top. I also have a bed pad and plastic sheet under the sheet. Very seldom do I have a leak and the plastic pants and bed pad catch anything that leaks (both bladder and bowel)

If it were just me I would not wear anything over my night diaper but my wife requested that I wear light weight shorts over my diaper at night. She has no problem with my incontinence and is very supportive so the least I can do is wear the shorts. I hate wearing any type of shirt while sleeping.

I sleep on my side a LOT. IMO, the best thing to use at night for anyone that has leaks is just a plain and simple quality made flat cloth diaper. I recommend using the Fetware pre-fold day, or night weight birdseye diapers. They also sell gauze pre-folds if you like those better. I have used both the night weight, and the day weight and found the day weight diaper was plenty absorbent enough for my needs and I'm a heavy wetter at night. The Fetware daipers are not the least expensive cloth diaper you'll find on the internet, but they really are top quality. I recommend them to anyone.

If you are a vet and need assistance, pls read thread.

Johnstone,

The topic of having the VA purchase nonformulary items should be its own thread I believe. It is such a big topic and you can cover many useful things for veterans who utilize the VA system. Not to say you can't discuss it here on this thread, I just don't believe you can do it justice under the guise of another thread. Care to start a new thread and I will chip in? You probably know more than I do but I will be glad to help. I have never had the VA purchase cloth diapers for me, but I have received other important incon items that make my life better.

I went to babykins.com and got a real good pr of protective pants that are terry lined. These will not leak after you flood a diaper. Yes they sell to adults!

Babykins sells some very good items, but I don't recommend their cloth diapers when compared to others such as Fetware.

Now see I'm the exact opposite. I LOVE babykins cloth diapers. I have three, they are wonderful.

I'm not talking about diapers. I'm talking about the totally leakpruf vinyl coverup pants. They are terry lined and real thick. These plastic pants will not leak!
