Sounds like we all have had some form of doctors not being understanding to our conditions. Mine happened when I asked the VA doctor about prescribing absorbent material. What happen next made me feel very uncomfortable. It seem to be in a condescending voice, "You want diapers, I will give you diapers". I couldn't get out of the doctors office quick enough. That was about 3 or 4 years ago. I haven't seen that doctor at the VA since and I am very happy about that. Now that I understand about what is going on with my body, I will not let a doctor talk to me that way again. if they do I will go straight to the patient advocate.
Don like you I have a neurogenic bladder brought on by a mini stroke. In the past most doc's wanted to throw meds at me, but I quickly had bad side affects and they didn't help that much. Finally, I just told the docs forget the meds as diapers have hardly no side affects except maybe a embarrassed situation from time to time.
I hope attitudes are changing the more advertising incontinence gets. I did notice an aisle marking at the grocery store that incontinence was on the label. I don't recall that being on there before.

Hey batman. I get my diapers from the VA too. It took work. I've had to go through the process three times. Once in my hometown in FL, then I moved to NC, then I moved back to FL. It's been difficult each time. From the VA I currently go to, I get confidry, Abena abri-let boosters, nullo, and A&D for diaper rash. My doctors nurse acted like a guard dog and wouldn't relay messages to my VA physician. I drove down to the main hospital and had a meeting with the one of the pharmacy managers and patient advocates. Pleaded my case if you will. I told them with the cheaper diapers, I wake up soaked in urine because I'm a very heavy wetter at night. I buy my own onesies and PUL covers. Although prosthetics has the power to buy such things. It's tough though and not all reps know how. I know that from experience. That process is more difficult than getting them to purchase diapers. It's really not even worth the trouble for me. Anyway, my VA doctor, once I got through to him, didn't bother me about the diapers. What other method will contain feces? None! So diapers it is. It can be embarrassing, but people really don't bother me about it.
