MikeJames, thanks for your reply. I completely understand your dilemma regarding deciding to give in to diapers. I am very close to that choice myself. During the day when at home, and not expecting company, I wear a thick cloth brief similar to a child's training pant with a PUL pant over it. I found these at babypants.com. They cater to the adbl crowd, but they do work. At night I wear an old fashion pin on cloth diaper with PUL diaper cover. Just yesterday, I had an appointment with my doctor regarding another issue, and I brought up my incontinence problems that he does know about. He seems to think that my lumbar stenosis could be an additional reason for my poor control. He plans to send my mri report to my urologist, so we will see if anything comes from that.

MikeJames, give the northshore pullups a try. I've read in a few place they are by far the best adult pullup out there, while still being quite thin and discrete.

Thanks. Worth a shot. I just wish the Depend "real fit" worked. I hate the ridiculous giant frilly waistband all the other brands seem to have. The Tena "real underwear" style ones are marginally better performing than depend but not adequate. Ugh.

I use the NorthShore pull up when I'm out, but still try to use a bathroom if I can. I can confirm they are much better than Depends or Tranquility ATNs, but still nowhere close to a good diaper for capacity. They have proven to be vey good for me containing moderate leaks.

The only thing about pull ups that bother me is that you have to completely undress to change.

MikeJames,

I wore pullups from my late twenties until earlier this year, when I switched to diapers. I was very resistant to making this change. But I'm glad I did. Diapers have three major advantages over pullups. One, even a top-flight pullup has very limited capacity compared to a diaper. Two, changing in public restrooms will always be awkward; however, changing a diaper is much faster and more discrete than changing a pullup. Three, diapers cost significantly less than pullups do. Not only are the unit costs for diapers lower, but you will use fewer diapers per day than pullups. I have gone from using 4-5 pullups a day to 2-3 diapers a day. For many years, I caused myself unnecessary inconvenience and expense by wearing pullups instead of diapers. At this point, I would without hesitation recommend that guys consider transitioning to diapers. The advantages are simply overwhelming.

This exactly. I've said for a very long time that you have to look at it as a cost-per-day, not per diaper/pullup. Plus, diapers work much better with way fewer leaks, and much longer times allowed per change. In most cases it just doesn't make sense to use pullups unless your incontinence is light, or very light with few leaks. In which case, I'd say Northshore would be your best bet.

I totally agree. I have yet to find a disposable pull-up that works well for men. The padding in pull-ups simply does not go high enough in the front, and that flaw gets worse as the waist/hip size gets larger. I tried all of the brands and found none of them satisfactory in my size. I was always worried about leaking when trying the samples. I have found diapers to be much more convenient and economical when I'm on the road. I don't have to worry about removing my shoes or pants in a public restroom. And, premium diapers have much larger capacities than pull-ups, meaning fewer changes per day, even for a very heavy wetter like me. For me, this is really important when I'm on the road, as suitable and safe rest stops can be few and far between, especially at night.
