An Update to my Update post.... Sigh, things on the internet can almost resemble philosophy at times! 8)

So tomorrow at 2:30PM EST I will be meeting with my PCP doctor at the VA and specifically addressing how I manage my incontinence. I hope to end up with a prescription for diapers, since the meds failed and dehydration isn't a healthy option. Fingers crossed, wish me luck. I will post an update to the updated Update post tomorrow.....

Mike, good luck. I have a prescription for "diapers" from the VA also. But their idea of diapers was attends pull-up. I am sure if you fight them or argue enough they might "see the light" and realize that those are not really diapers. Make sure you stress the fact that you need REAL diapers that work. Good luck again. Papa

Mike,

Good luck, I'm sure you will get it handle this time, I have great health coverage, one thing they don't cover is diapers. But I know the V,A, does, I will have my fingers crossed for you !!

So we went to the PCP and it went as predicted. They first tried to just send me back to urology, even though the urologist said it was caused by my TBI and he couldn't do anything since the meds failed. Then my wife told him we flat out wouldn't dehydrate myself as it made other problems worse. He was a tad belligerent and asked what we wanted him to do then when my wife told him that we already managed it with diapers, we just wanted the VA to prescribe them so they could provide them. He put in a prescription for my size and told me that getting the right diaper would be between me and the pharmacist. He did cover three diapers a day, which will be helpful if we get a quality product. They said all they could provide was the Kendell Wings, because it was what my VA stocked, which I would then have to try before switching to something else. They did mention that one of the pharmacy technicians was fluent on what diapers the VA covered and such, but since it was the close of business on Friday he wasn't there. I hope to get a better quality, since one HUGE factor is my ability to self administer and crappy diapers rip too easily for that. I will keep you informed once I figure out more.

And thank you for all the posts of encouragement, I was a wreck and nervous as hell. It was embarrassing telling the doctor and then the pharmacy technician. To make it worse, she was cute and barely out of school..... It was both humiliating and creepy, since the area provided to talk to the pharmacists are not very private anyway and I was trying to get the door closed to make it easier and she was acting like I broke some unwritten law of the VA...

So the Kendel Product didn't work, and when I went back it was the same Pharmacy Tech who was pretty nice and sympathetic. She gave me a sample of Prevail and Depends Pull-Ups, neither of which worked. She seemed really confused about the VA system regarding this issue so I mentioned I new the VA offered other products because of this site, and that there were plenty of Vets here with incontinence issues. She recommended I find what the best product in the VA catalogue and order samples from somewhere. Once I knew what I wanted, she would help me get the doctor to write the specific script for what I asked for. Hopefully this helpfulness will prove useful! :)

Sorry to hear the ones they prescribed didn't work out. As others as said here what works for one, doesn't work for the other. Hopefully, you can find something soon in the VA system that works for you. At least, you have someone who is working for you instead of against you.
