Re: Anyone's Dr. Ever Fully Support Using Diapers

My doctor made out a prescription for my diapers to give to Medi-Cal. I told him I'd had enough of testing when I was younger with no solution. Being dual incontinent I've had accidents in his office. The nurses know me and all have changed me at the doctors request.

At my request, my doctor provided a prescription for diapers which I will use for tax purposes. However, as I too am double incontinent, there really is no other viable alternative for the bowel incontinence.

If it were just urinary incontinence, I believe that he still would have provided the prescription, although more reluctantly. His attitude is understandable as he is looking for a cure, and diapers are not a cure. It is the age-old battle of curing a medical problem vice living with it. Sometimes just living with it is enough. :D

I got a letter from my doctor stating that the use of absorbent products or diapers was medically necessary for tax purposes, however......I was told by my accountant that you had to spend 10% of your gross pay on medical supplies to get any kind of a tax break.....

The amount needed for taxes doesn't let me qualify but I'm hoping Medi-Cal will help me with the diapers I need.

both my gp and urologist approve of me wearing diapers.
and both have tried to get my insurance (without success) to cover them.
im grateful that they are both supportive because diapers have literally given me my life back.
its been hit or miss with getting the right ones and has been a struggle at times, but honestly i couldnt leave the house if i didnt have them.

I am double incon (bladder, & bowel) due to nerve damage in my spinal cord. Over the years, I have tried cathing for bladder, and suppositories for bowel, and the results were just not significant because of issues. I know for many the use of cathing, and suppositories works fine, but because of other issues it does not work well for me. All of my healthcare is provided by the Veterans Affairs (VA), and because of the nerve damage to my spinal cord, I see urologist every two years for a full work-up just to make sure I've not encountered any additional problems that need further review and be certain my condition is "stable". Once all the tests are completed the urologist reports the findings to my primary care doc with a statement to continue using diapers as needed.

PB&J, it's 10% of gross in medical expenses, not just supplies. It includes any doctor, hospital, prescription meds, etc.

Also if you have an HSA, there is no minimum for reimbursement
