Paul and Sandy bring up a good point about odor that I can relate to!

I never get any odor with my cloth diapers and do not routinely use a diaper deodarant; I reserve that for very special social situations when I want to be absolutely sure there will be no odor.

But day in, day out, night in and night out I get no objectionable urine odor when wearing my (usual) cloth diapers.

In contrast, with a disposable I do find I can often smell urine odor and that's worrisome because if you can smell yourself, others can smell it, too! For me it's not a big deal since I rarely wear disposables but it's something to factor in for folks who rely on disposables!

That brings up the "odor control" factor when choosing disposables, as if it weren't hard enough with fit problems, tape problems and absorbancy levels to deal with. Chances are the diaper that fits best and works best does NOT feature odor control, whereas the diaper WITH odor control probably has tapes that pop and it leaks on thesecond wetting.

Well, there's a use for "Fresh Again" which I reccommend since I know it is very effective. It is vanilla scent-just so you know. there are others and there are unscented-simply spray some on the inside of the diaper before taping it on. For cloth, I pin on my diaper, spray the front well and then pull on the plastic pants.

Just a quick update on this velcro diaper(Lil'Miracle). I have washed 10 times now and noticed no problems. All the diaper does is get softer. Shrinkage was not a problem.
One thing I noticed, though, is if you are carefull pulling the velcro off when changing, the velcro will last longer.That velcro is pretty strong and you have to pull pretty hard to get them unfasted. This diaper has two strips that grip the soft part of the velcro base. I believe this diaper holds great promise.
One other note,though, for over night wearing, I strongley suggest you add some baby diapers as inserts. The side where the velcro is located does not have a lot of absorbant cloth. If you are a side sleeper, that will be a must. Will add more later as I use it more. ................Paul

I saw where Paul stated he always wore plastic over his disposable. Am I the odd ball for not doing this. I've never really thought about it. I guess maybe years ago I thought it was to babyish and never went there.

The Lil' Miracle diaper has a large area to fasten the velcro strips to. If you go to their website, mylilmiracle.com, they have a picture you can blow up to see the velcro part of that diaper. The two strips can be replaced or resewn back in place if they get loose in wahings. This diaper is about the best diaper I've seen in quality of workmanship. The soft part of the velco is a big area, and it should not ever need any replacement.

Your other question on plastic pants. I will wear plastic pants over my disposable diaper on long trips in case of leaks, or when I don't trust the disposable to not leak. My plastic pants will only help in minor leaks. Before long with a major leak, you'll get too much urine between the two. But generally, I don't wear a pair of plastic pants over my disposable.

By the way Sandy, did your plastic pants come in you ordered from LL Medico? Weren't those the fancy ones? ...........Paul

Yes, a convenient cloth diaper would be a big plus and that is why Paul and myself, both long time cloth wearers (pin on diapers) are experimenting with Velcro TM hook and loop fastening diapers.

Back on page 1 of this thread you will see I posted on Sept 20th that since Paul was trying a Velcro diaper from Indisposables, I would try the one from Babykins. It takes about three weeks to get stuff from Canada so I am still waiting for my diaper to arrive.

Paul has been wearing and laundering his diaper and started the reports. I will do likewise as soon as can.

This is one of those "individual choice" things that are hard to fit into a rule such as "wear them in circumstance A, but no need for circumstance B".

Those who wear plastic pants over disposables feel they provide extra protection and if they do, fine. Or even if the wearer feels more confident, that's fine.

I wear plastic pants virtually all the time since I wear cloth diapers, but when I wear a disposable diaper I never wear plastic pants over it...go figure, huh? When I had a disposable that was prone to leaking, I added plastic pants and found that it made no difference. The "better" solution was to use a better diaper or change the lesser diaper more often.
