Now THAT was funny.

Hopefully you did not have very far to run to get back to your tent.

Loving life right now!!!! massive thanks for all your ideas on where to visit, the Grand Canyon is on my list!
Tonight will be my second night in a tent gives me a great sense of freedom! probably helps that the campsite is beautiful and makes me feel so relaxed. Spent most of today hiking and exploring all this activity will sure make me sleep like a log.
Next stop is San Francisco trying to find a cheap hotel/motel there but not having much luck. Have found a hostel but not sure if my confidence will let me stay in a hostel with shared rooms (experience advice?)
Now a funny little story from yesterday evening after a good amount of driving and a jet lagged me! no I can laugh but was f ing and cursing at the time! Go to shower in campsite shower get undressed wrap up used diaper ready to put in garbage. Shower, feeling nice and clean and relaxed by now go to get dressed and what have I done? well only forgotten to bring a spare in with me, end of me being relaxed by now! just imagine a mad Englishman rushing back to his tent trying desperately and praying to god that his bladder wouldn't leak! lesson learnt!

Is it wrong that I pictured that with you wearing a top hat and a monocle?

Glad to hear that you are enjoying your visit. San Francisco is one of the most expensive cities in the USA, but it has many things you won't find anywhere else. Enjoy your time there, and let us know your impressions.

A quick little update. You lot were correct San Francisco is not cheap!!!!!! but a great city with lots to offer and kept me busy. Now its off to Yosemite national park. Staying in Mammoth Lakes as is the closest place with a cheapish Motel 6. Planning on doing a bit of exploring and the odd hike then thinking of heading up to Lake Tahoe then the Red woods (I know its not the most direct route but who cares!!!!!!) but always open to suggestions.
A little awkward asking this but all the walking round cities, National parks etc has caused well lets just say some chafing caused by you guessed it my protection. This has never really been a problem before as back home I am not active everyday due to work. At the moment I seem to spend a whole day driving followed by a couple of days of walking around for most of the day! Now maybe I need to stop doing this but really enjoy the walking around part and before I left for this trip I said I wasn't going to let my problem cause me any problems!!!! Yes I am using rash cream etc but wondering if anyone has any advice / tips?
Thanks all in advance and will keep you updated.

I have to do a lot of walk, it part of my therapy. I use Vaseline, it protect and give lubrication to the points that are rubbing. Hang in there.

I find that if the chaffing is not too severe, then use a corn-starch based (not talc based) baby powder.

Once the chaffing tears or compromises the skin, then it's time for something more lubricating. I use "Baby Anti-Monkey Butt Diaper Rash Cream". While it soothes the skin, it seems to also lubricate. Once the lubrication "wears away/off", then back to the baby powder.

Enjoy Yosemite/Mammoth and your travels.

A pair of sports compression pants worn over the diaper will help to eliminate friction with the thighs. :D This is like bicycle shorts. They also provide support for a sagging diaper and smooth out bulges and lines. There are many brands to choose from. I like those from UnderArmour.

Wow Yosemite / Mammoth is a beautiful area absolutely loved my couple of days exploring and hiking around here. I took some of the advise regarding a pair of sports/compression shorts to sort out the chafing issue and am pleased to say it works well when walking etc (don't worry I wear something over the compression shorts!!!!!!!!) off to Lake Tahoe in a bit for a couple of days camping by the lake.
Had my first big protection let down on the way to Mammoth about 3 hours into the drive. Stopped at a pull-out / view point to get a few pictures to send home to the folks as I stepped out the car and pulled t-shirt down, re adjusted shorts etc I realised I had a rather large tell-tale diaper leak going on. This was the first time I have had to deal with a major leak whilst in America. Of course no where to change in sight and a group of others taking photos I felt totally humiliated even though im pretty sure no one noticed. Needless to say I didn't take a photo in the end. All that I could do was reach into the back, grab a disposable bed pad and sit on that. Lucky for me about 15 mins down the road another view point and this time one with a loo thank god is all I can say! and thank god no one was there! never parked so close to a loo before.
What would you guys/girls have done in this situation? changing in the car did cross my mind but totally inappropriate as no tinted windows etc. Or any tips for if it does happen again? I guess I just drank a little too much coffee with breakfast combined with being seated all the time thought it still had at least another hours worth of capacity. Live and learn.
Now the next thing which slightly upset me was a slight issue at the Motel 6 I stayed at. Great clean motel etc cant fault it on that. However on my second night after a full day of exploring I climbed into bed and realised a fully plastic sheet/protector had been placed on top of the mattress along with the standard hotel/motel mattress protector you find in all hotels/motels. I can only guess housekeeping saw my supplies and the used diapers in the rubbish/trash (I had bagged them individually) and for some reason thought to protect the bed? I actually have no idea whether I should be insulted or pleased? are they even allowed to do this?. I had left a nice little tip that morning like I do most mornings if I have come back to a nicely cleaned room etc and also to compensate for the used diapers in the trash. Which in my mind all seems rather fair.
Sorry for the long post just a few issues I wanted to get off my chest.

I'm guessing it's just standard protocol for maintaining a high level of cleanliness and habitability, and not meant to be accusatory or insulting. With all the bedbug concern that's been going on recently, I'm sure management wants to make it very clear that they are stepping up to their responsibility for providing a clean and safe habitat for their customers.

Your story about the motel, but back a memory of when we went to Disney world and my son was 9 or 10. He had been potty trained for quite sometime, but he was exhausted after the first night and pee in the bed. Needless to say we didn't realize till the next morning. We striped the sheets and left a note. The next night they had placed a shower curtain under the bed sheet. Nothing like hearing him say he was hot due to the plastic. I'm sure the hotel was just trying to protect the mattress.
