My son who is aged 13 years has autism severely. He has not learnt controling his blader and bowel muscle which necesitate him having a diaper. He does not perform his own personel hygene but require asistants with it. He is now adolesents and is growing hairs on his body thichly. Some hairs is where he make his defeacations. The excremants entangles in the hairs and each time his diaper must be change this consumes much time for the excremants being removal and then all so the hairs be cleaned and dryed which make him not comfortable. His autism make him very senssitive of touch and this is upseting of him. We are of Sikh faith and cuting of the hairs is not permisible for us so we must discover to manage the hygene of him while remaning the hairs in there place. We are deeply greatful is you are able of suggesting a more efficient way of this. Thanking you very much, Vikrampreet

Hello vikrampreet, I would suggest some type of skin protectant, such as a general diaper cream that comtains vasoline, that should facilitate an easier time doing the cleaning, There may be some others on the Forum that have other ideas, I don't have to deal with bowel issues, but figured that may be a good start for ideas, Puffy

You are obviously having a tough time with this but I don't quite know what to suggest for this. I take it you have discussed the problem with doctors / continence advisors. If not you ought to do so as they may have other suggestions for you.

Failing that, it might be worth looking into trying to get timed bowel evacuations - maybe by using suppositories and to do this at the beginning or the end of the day so as to mean washing easier. This handy device could also help as it empties the whole large bowel out in one go.

As far as cutting hair is concerned, quite a lot of people here shave in the nether regions to make hygiene easier but i understand that you are not allowed to by your religion.

Hmm... this is a tough onee.. i know very little about Sikh.. but i do know that in some religions. there are exceptions to precepts in certian situations.. For example.. as a Catholic.. during lent we are required to fast and abstain on Ash Wed and Good Friday... but some are exempted from the fast due to age.. maybe you want to consult a local Sikh cleric to find out if you son's situation would permit the cutting of hair. If not.. i guess the most impotant thing is modify his diet so his bowel movements are not sticky. I find that when i am constipated. .. the stool is stickier and is harder to wipe. Perhaps enemas could help if used sparingly.. which is more or less what wheels suggested..
