it looks like im going to have to give up my beloved coffee.
ive had my 4th (5th?) bowel accident (thank goodness i was at home) and i am 100% sure its due to coffee.
i used to work at starbucks so i love love love coffee. i guess ill be switching to tea.
if switching to tea means no more bowel accidents ill gladly do it. but with some hesitance.
hopefully that is actually the cause, but im pretty sure it is. its the constant in all of my accidents.
ah well.

Coffee will definitely loosen things up, that's for sure! Doesn't effect me that way, thankfully, as I could not stop drinking it if I tried, and don't want to either! My drug of choice!

The bowel incontinence surprised me. Urinary, yes, as coffee is a diuretic, but I am sure you assessment is correct. We have cut back as well, especially during the summer, yet on the other hand we drink a lot more water so I keep well flushed so to speak. Hope it works out and let us know. Could be a key for many others.

Coffee is also a bowl irritant, so he's spot on.

Justj,
As I am a coffee addict, my heart goes out to you. Tough decision.

Bowel accidents are the pits, and coffee is my drug of choice as well. If your insurance permits, perhaps consulting with a gastroenterologist might help you manage your situation. Keep us informed, as this could be relevant to everybody who drinks java.

That's a decision I just could not make. I am a zombie without a cup of two of coffee each morning.

When my pelvic rehab nurse commented that coffee could contribute to leaks, I replied that when I had exhausted all other remedies except for surgery I would consider it and not before.
Remember, at my age I have very few vices left.

You could try to stabilize your stomach with psyllium husk.
Cheap remedy with no side effects.
