wish me luck

Thu Jul 28, 2016 9:31 pm

as i go back to the urologist tomorrow. i get to tell him the medication didnt work and wait for him to throw something else at me.
not even sure why i bother to go. i miss my old urologist who cared about me and was interested in helping me and not just pushing drugs. the last time i saw the new urologist he said "im just gonna put down overactive bladder" like he wasnt sure so he was just gonna write something down. sigh. doctors...

During my years working as a registered nurse I came in contact with many doctors. Some did not seem to care while others had a good bedside manner. I do not know how your insurance works but if you can find a different urologist I feel you should. Remember the doctor works for you. You do not work for him/her.

Now for the issue of “pushing drugs”. Part of medicine is trial and error. What works for someone else may not work for you. This means that a doctor may try many different medications or combination of medications.

Sometimes you have to stand up for yourself and demand an explanation of why he/she writes just “overactive bladder”. You are entitled to an explanation of what ever he/she decides is best for you. Make a list of questions before you see your doctor and ask for an answer in words that you understand.

I agree, be actively involved in your care. Ask questions, lots of them, and don't let them rush you.
