Hey, Paul, right on! Sandy is the best thing that has happened to this forum in a long time.

I'm glad you persuaded her to try the lace panties. Now if only I could persuade her to try the colorful print Babykins plastic pants...I know she would love them for the quality and perhaps her husband would notice the colorful print! even when he's dead tired!

I gotta wonder where the hell everyone is.....but they can type something just as easily as we can. Right now it seems as if you, Sandy and myself have a private forum going, LOL. But I'm sure folks are reading and smiling.

And I do hope that folks wearing only disposable diapers are watching our thread about testing "easy to wear" cloth diapers. And for those just tuning in, Paul is well into his test of an Indisposables diaper from the My Lil Miracle company and I have just started testing a BabyKins diaper from the Babykins Co. Both companies are in Cananda so shipping is a bit slower than domestic. But Canandian goods have a great reputation for quality.

I would imagine the two diapers we are testing are very similar. Both are all cloth and both fasten with Velcro TM hook and loop fastening.

That's important since it's the only convenient way to change the diaper. If you wear a cloth pull on diaper (usually dubbed "training pants"), you cannot change it without removing pants and shoes-not what you want to do while out and about.

The Velcro on diaper can be put on just like a disposable. Back up to a wall and hold the back of the diaper pressed to the wall while you pull the front up and then fasten the Velcro tabs just as tho you were taping on a disposable.

The problem I found in the past....and I hope it is now past....is the hook and loop fastening does not stand up well to frequent laundering and loses its grip and results in a diaper that does not stay securely fastened. Any diaper needs to be securely fastened to fight sag that comes when you start wetting it.

So, Paul reports a dozen washings and the Indisposables diaper is doin fine.

I've just started-two washings-and the Babykins diaper is doing fine, as would be expected at this early stage anyway.

Interesting too, is Paul is wearing his to bed, using disposables by day and I am wearing mine just by day, resorting to my pin on prefolds for night time duty.

That's great, since many who may try cloth would most likely use cloth at night (saves money and provides better chance for waking in a dry bed) while sticking with disposables by day. Most of these folks would never go to cloth by day-simply too bulky for their lifestyle.

Sandy,
I'm glad to hear your husband did notice your new attire. I know my wife usually comments on a new pair of plastic pants or that print diaper I got a month ago. Joe mentioned the print plastic panties that Babykins have. You do know that LL Medico has some nice prints too. They have basically the same exact print, but LL Medico has a few more to choose from. I don't really know, but I guess their plastic material is basically the same too. LL Medico would ship faster.
I know you said you are not convinced on cloth yet, but I believe you are convinced you're going to try them soon. Any ways, just take your time. I'
m not sure how the baby cloth diapers you have orderd will give you any ideal on how cloth performs. I believe you were going to test these as a booster. Good luck what ever you decide. Just remember Joe and I are here to help if you need it. Also, any of the other 423 people who are now members could help too! ..........................Paul

Joe,
The velcro used on the Babykins and the Indiposable from My lil' miracle are quite different. For some reason, I was thinking you were going to try the Indisposable too. I'm eager to hear how yours works.
When I wash mine, I do keep the diaper fastened. I throw it in the dryer inside-out and about half way through, I turn it back. They really do dry fast. The contour diapers I've used from Loving Comfort, take forever to dry. I still have 2 I haven't started using yet, too. I may try to sell these on e-bay. They are so hard to fasten together with even the big King Kong size diaper pins!
Thanks for your reort, Joe. ...................Paul

Paul and Sandy,

I visited the LLMedico site and I have purchased plastic pants from them in the past. I know that times change and sometimes I don't keep up (LOL), but my recollection of their plastic pants are they are made by Gary.

As I posted numerous times, Gary makes the majority of plastic pants that are private labled and sold all over. One cannot buy directly from Gary and one never sees a "Gary" lable.

I have sensitivity to elastic pressure and I need very gentle elastics. Gary pants typically have overly tight (IMO) waist band elastics for the size of the pant. Aside from that, there is nothing wrong with Gary pants, they are excellent pants and available in a bewildering aray of styles, colors and prints. I can wear Gary pants if customize them, that is I will order Large pants with standard leg elastics but get an XL waist elastic which is much gentler around my waist.

On to BabyKins and why I talk them up. They are NOT Gary pants and the standard elastics are super. No customizing for me. I order Large pants and can wear them comfortably as they come. IMO, the vinyl is just a bit nicer, call it softness or smoothness.

I think some of the Gary vinyl is nearly as soft but a lot of the Gary vinyl, especially that used for the prints, is a "harsher" vinyl that I don't find as comfortable.

I know this is highly subjective, so I'd sure like to see you, Paul, try a pair of BabyKins and let us know if I'm full of the stuff that makes the grass green or perhaps there is something to my constant raving about BabyKins plastic pants.

And, just so you know, there are three distinct lines of vinyl used by BabyKins: the light stuff is more like silk than vinyl and I posted way back this is what I thought Sandy would like-very delicate pants. The downside is a relatively short life before stiffening.

The regular vinyl is in the weight range of most plastic pants and what you get with the print plastic pants-and there are only four prints, I know.

The heavy stuff is 6 mil and don't think it feels "heavy", I's rather say it feels "substantial" but that's another subjective thing. I like their 6 mil pants that come white and solid colors (to match shorts color for concealing diapers while wearing shorts).

Finally on shipping; one order took a full three weeks, but an other took less than two weeks.

So Paul, if you are in the mood to experiment, please try the BabyKins and see if I'm right or full of ....... well, you know! <grin>

Hi Paul,
You've got me really interested in the Indisposables Velcro diaper! That name, Indisposables, is one from way back in my past when they offered only waterproof pants and those were very well made coated nylon waterproof pants. So, they've a great reputation in my book.

The BabyKins diaper is a contour, ofcourse, which is not my favorite style of diaper (I'm a die hard prefold fan). The Velcro is protected in the laundry, supposedly, by a keeper sewn right into the back of the diaper.

This system means the hook and loop is always fastened, the key I suppose to useful life span. For each strip of "hooks" on the back of the diaper, there are two (loop) landing zones, one on the front for fastening the diaper on and one on the back flap to secure the hook section during non wear and laundry.

A cosmetic thing, that I don't care much for, is the stip of Velcro loops for the waist extends all the way across the diaper. The loops for the leg fastening are much shorter and still adequate for plenty of adjustment.

The diaper is light (for me) and will only do about three hours safely. Four is pushing it. So I fold a light prefold into thirds and sling it into the Vecro on diaper. And yes, that's a bit more load on the hook and loop fastening as the diaper can get wetter and heavier.

I've really looked carefully at what Babykins has to offer. I believe I'll try a few pairs as you suggested. I've ordered the print "Babies" from LL Medico before. Basically, I usually order solid colors. White is my favorite(my wife's too) but I also like yellow and blue. I didn't see a color swatch for their solid colors, only for their prints. Are their colors a more translucent, than a solid non-translucent?
I prefer the translucent colors. LL Medico's colors are available that way.
Adult cloth diaper site has the colors I like too.
One thing I've noticed with the Lil'Miracle Velcro diaper I'm trying is the print I received does bleed the dye color on your plastic pants. I've used the same plastic pants with this diaper(white translucent) and there are blotches of the dye scattered on the inside of them. It's OK, though. I had ordered a white pair and they were out at the time and offered me a print at the same cost. .....................Paul

Hi guys
Got my cloth booster or should I say toddler diapers. They came yesterday. I ran then through the wash last night. Can't say what brand they are they came sealed in a somewhat heavy plastic something or other? there's ten to a pack it says XL on it. I think these are what you guys referred to as birds eye? I put two in my brief a few hours ago when I changed last. I am impressed they really do wick well. as I'm sitting here they do feel a little wetter then what I'm use to but it's not bad. I'm going to just let it go until I leak and see how long it takes? Without the boosters by now I'd be pushing it. I'm wearing a tena classic. I was just checking my brief the cloth is wet from end to end but the brief isn't to bad yet. You guys weren't kidding about the wicking that's great. As far as the thickness it doesn't feel that much differant then a abri form super x plus or a Molicare super plus. I think if I went out in public I may want to wear a skirt with some tight pantie hoes. I'm going to give a couple of these to my young friend and see what she thinks of them. But so far I'd say not bad...................Sandy

Hi Paul and Sandy

First off, be sure to get to the BabyKins site, as opposed to ppbear site which is a dealer in BabyKins featuring only selected items.

I want to post this URL since navagating is "interesting" to say the least on the BabyKins site. This URL should bring up the plastic pants page with all the pants listed, not just some of them.

http://www.babykins.com/Merchant2/merch ... y_Code=KWP

And I'd copy/paste that rather than type the whole damn thing! <grin>

All the colors I would characterize as translucent, Paul, you can see a print diaper thru the colored pants.

On that page listed above:

10300V are the super light vinyl pants in white, blue, pink and yellow which are silky in feel and extremely comfy. I can't imagine Sandy would not love these from the start. These plastic pants are unique; I've never seen anyone else offer the same thing. Downside is relatively short life span before they start to stiffen.

10300VP are the print plastic pants, supposedly in white, blue, yellow and pink. This is the average weight vinyl, 4 mils. Very soft and gentle with very comfortable lycra leg and waist bands.

A problem right now is the Print 1 is supposed to be white but comes up blue, so I've e-mailed them to see if that glitch can be corrected.

The yellow is an animals print and the blue is a babies print. Don't know what the pink print is, maybe Sandy will try them and let us know, tho I'd not be ordering pink!

20300V are my favorite; a 6 mil vinyl in white, blue, pink and yellow. I have every color except pink  The heavier vinyl feels super and they stand up to wear and laundering. My plastic pants get washed in the washing machine-I've no time for hand washing nonesense!

and take a look (left side menue on the page) at DPF Adult

I got two pair of the 21300V and love them. they are the same as the 6 mil vinyl pants except the wasit band is a much wider, padded waist band and the waist and leg bands are colored the same as the pants.

That is, my blue 6 mil pants have the usual white lycra leg and wasit bands.

But my blue "Tuffy" pants have blue leg bands and the wide blue waistband.

Hi Sandy,

This one's for you....remember the Budweiser ad from a few years ago? This Bud's for you! No, probably not...I'm dating myself again!

OK, you found the secret to cloth diapering; it's wicking! You already know about the cost of disposables and how it "costs" to change a diaper that leaked and find most of the rear padding still nice and dry

That does not happen with cloth, for the very reason you discovered with the cloth baby diapers. Wetness gets wicked to every part of the cloth diaper. Just using cloth inserts as you are doing will (or should) increase the use of the dipsoable by getting more of the disposable used (wet) before a leak forces a change.

The downside of course is laundry. Most folks using only disposable diapers are not going to want to deal with ANY diaper laundry. But if folks would deal with diaper laundry, then the best combination is cloth diapers overnight and disposables by day...boosted with cloth baby diapers.

Sandy, you've read my exchange with Paul where in I say BabyKins plastic pants are rather unique and I believe quite unlike the pants from LLmedico which I think are Gary pants. As you can see, I think I've got Paul convinced there is a difference and he's going to try the BabyKins.

Sandy, what I'd really like to talk you into right now is joining us on the Yahoo discussion group, Adult Incon. Paul and I are very active on that board and it is a very active board.

Nothing against Shoppy's board, here, and Schoppy encourages members here to join there and vica versa. I would never abandon Schoppy in a 1000 years as we go back to "square one" with incon boards.

Not only is there action daily by several participants, there is a growing female population! I've not done the math but I'll bet we've got more than 10% female members now on what used to be, inspite of our best efforts, virtually an all male board.

I'm sure Paul will echo my urging you to apply to Adult Incon. Just saying you belong to Schoppy's board is adequate but I know you will write a nice introductory letter, the only absolute requirement to join Brew's Group...where Paul Martin is still Paul Martin but I morph from Joe Kelly to Joe Shaughnessy. Real name is Kelly but I've always loved that name Shaughnessy and so get to use it as a nom de plum on the web!

For your info, and any others thinking of joining the Yahoo Group, and wondering what the functional differences are.

Here, anyone can read the forum any time but cannot post.

Once you apply to Schoppy, the webmaster and get approved, you have an ID and password that lets you post on the forum.

At the Yahoo Group it is members only. You cannot read messages or visit any other parts of the Group aside from the home page.

You apply to join by providing an introductory message. Once you are admitted, you can read all the messages anytime and visit other parts of the Group but cannot post directly. Your post is delayed until one of the mods reads it and posts it. We do well, IMO, getting posts up within hours of your writing it, thanks to mods on both coasts spanning the time zones.
