Help dealing with an open wound in my lower buttocks

Tue Jun 24, 2014 3:25 am

Was riding my MTB yesterday and felt a sharp pain in my buttocs, when I came home and looked I saw, that my diaper actually caused an open wound, yet small but still it hurts, and I can’t figure out how it can heal, since I have to wear protection aka diapers due to incontinence.

The wound is naturally exposed to wetness, are there any creams which can deal with such an issue thereby letting the wound heal and still protect it from the wetness?

I would get an appointment with your PCP and ask to see a wound treatment center physician.

ok, the subject line may have sounded a bit more serious than necessary....
However I applied a gentle amount of rash cream on the spot where the skin was damaged and made sure to change often so the wettness didn't reach that area (Managed some days, whereas other days the wetness did reach the spot)

However after a week doing this, finally it seems that my skin heals perfect.

I am glad to read that your wound is healing without extraordinary measures. Incontinents can never be too careful about such matters.

no, and I was very worried about getting an infection because of broken skin.
Thankfully I managed without my doctors help. I feel embarrassed each time I address my issues to medical professionals.

As you say, we are exposed to more risk than other people are, due to an increased level of bacteria in that area....
