Hi,

I would normally wear disposable diapers to manage my incontinence but, fed up with leaks, I have decided I would like to try a cloth product at night and wondered if you could offer advice on what to use. As it is for night time use, I’m not too worried about discretion under clothes, as long as it does the job.

I live in the UK, so my options are limited. I've looked at a few options, listed below. They're all from UK based companies, apart from the pre-fold which is from a company in the US. I found that this company offers reasonable shipping costs. I have looked at other US companies, but their shipping costs made the overall price unreasonable. But if you know of any other companies that I could look at, please let me know.

Hi there! I am in Scotland and use terry nappies at night. You do hvae to fold them, kust as you would baby ones, but they are much more flexible that pre-made ones and easier to wash and dry.

if you go to http://www.drylife.co.uk/index.php you will see a range of suitable terry squares and platic pants - the ones I use actually. At my wist size a 48" square, folded as shown fits fine thouh I use a couple of baby nappies foled up insde as well to contine any floods. You could trey an old towel inside if you wanted.

The advantage of the terry squares is when you come to dry them - they wash and dry flat so don't take any longer than any other towel. A pre-f;od with mutli layers take nuch longer.

Washing is easy but always run them though a rinse cycle before the wash to wash away the urine and there should not be any smell.

Dry life allow you to buy singles of nappies so you can try the system out without much cost - maybe £15 even. Give it a go and see how you get on.

Oh, and I always sleep on am absobent pad http://www.allaboutincontinence.co.uk/catalogue/browse.php?product_Category_ID=130&parent=128 usually I have to buy a single one with flaps and cut off the flaps and these sit in place on the matress and cath any leaks. It saves making my wife any hotter with a waterproof matress cover!

Finally, don't forget nappy pins with the nappies!

Further thoughts...

A problem with Drylife is that they are impossible to actually contact although they usually maange to sent stuff out. I hvae been trying to get some sizing information of rubber pants with them and have failed with email and telephone.

A search elsewhere finds http://www.home-n-dry.com/ I haven't used them myself but I know of other who have. I am going to order some smaller nappied 30" x 30" to use as a soaker pad instead of my baby nappies as they have good prices.

If you live in the enlightened land of bonny Scotland I thought that several of the Scottish PCT's will provide nappies and plastic pants instead of disposable pads and nappies. Perhaps it might be worth asking the question becuase you might be eligible to receive them.

Thanks for the suggestion. I might investigate. The trouble is that the continence advisor here was a bit of a grump and getting anyhting useful from the service is quite hard. however, I have at least 2 nights of kit so wash very 2 days and things are fine. I have tena maxis for when away.

Are you in Scotland also, Rick?

I'm in Birmingham, so some distance away, but I remember reading somewhere that the Scottish Continence services are more 'green' and are happy to provide nappies and waterproof pants for incontinence.
If you receive pads and disposable nappies at the moment they may be pleased to offer re-usables- sometimes you have to be persistent! Also if by the sound of it you only have a couple of pairs, then that is not nearly enough, they would provide appropriate quantities.
