I'm going to a conference this next weekend and recently had few issues with bowel accidents. I swear since I was given stool softener in the hospital this has been happening. How can I get myself regular again?

When this happens, I stop taking the stool softener for a few days, then resume taking it when I know I'll have ready access to a toilet. This can involve enemas, suppositories, and laxatives, as circumstances permit.

I haven't taken stool softeners since the hospital over a month ago. I think it's one of my meds. I'm thinking gabapentin

Look up gabapentin on the internet. Good luck and report back when you can.

Justj, I take a fairly high dose of Gabapentin daily and have had no problem with bowel accidents although I am fecal incontinent.

Gabapentin affects the nerves and usually is prescribed for peripheral neuropatic pain, or for seizures. It should not cause bowel accidents. The listed side affects do not include fecal accidents.

I think I found the culprit. Celebrex.

Try to set up a daily schedule to void your bowels once your body gets on a schedule it does work really well at limiting accidents! also if you think you are having issues you should (if your doctor approves) look into activated charcoal tablets or Chlorophly tables this will really help with any odor issues if you do have an accident in public!

I definitely need to do this. I had another accident this morning thankfully before leaving the house but not with enough time to shower. I felt gross all morning

It takes a while to get your body on a schedule so don't give up on it to quickly juts set a time once or twice a day to try to go and force your self to sit on the toilet even if you don't go, a good trick is to drink some coffee (if you are able to safely consume ) 30 mins before your set time as caffeine has a good safe (for many people) trigger to get some movement going...

both activated charcoal and Chlorophyll do work at making odor mild, but both discolor the bowel movement and can be shocking how discolored it is, also both MAY have side effects and can affect other medications so you need to speak with a doctor to be safe before you use them. its takes about 3 days for either of them to work but they really do make odor mild!

Yeah. Activated carbon readily adsorbs many other compounds. That's why it works, it pulls odor causing compounds out of your gut, but can also bind your other medications before your body can absorb them ... so definitely not a great idea if you're taking any oral medications.
