I used to know a lady who was mostly bed bound and decided to try out some incontinence pants because she didn't want to keep waking her husband (who unlike her, slept and woke at normal hours) to put her on the bedpan which often took ages. The idea originally was that she would wear them at night only, and continue to use the pan during the day. Then she decided that using nappies was better than using the bedpan because the bedpan dug into her skin, so started using them all the time and pooing in them as well (must have been delightful for her husband to clear up). Within a few months she was doubly incontinent (or at least telling her friends that was the case; previous to this she hadn't been) and claiming her nappies through the NHS. I found it quite odd but quite a cautionary tale on the dangers of letting something like that go.
