Sorry about the late response. Northshore packs the diapers very tight as a way to save transportation costs thus keeping the cost to us (the users) lower. However, the tight packaging makes the padding very stiff. Northshore created a video on how to "activate the brief" on their website. like Porkchop mentioned step 1 is stretch the brief lengthwise this allows the standing leak guards to stand up. step2 is to fold the brief down the centerline creating a channel and allows the padding to loosen up. when we tested the product. We found that by adding a third step we called "massaging the brief" which can be as simple as gently rolling the padding into a roll or using your hand to gently squeeze the stiff areas (you can easily feel the stiff areas) doing our added step 3 we increased the product's ability to absorb fluid as well as made it much more comfortable ( we put a step by step guide in our Northshore review you can jump to the timestamp in the video description.)

I personally activate all the products I use now as it allows the product to be more comfortable and some are able to work better.

Do not shake the diaper as that can be detrimental to the padding.
