So, I went with my mum to visit my nan today. She only lives a 10 minute drive away from us, and we weren't planning on staying long, but I took my changing bag with me. I'm trying to get in the habit of taking it everywhere. I had a little accident at nan's but felt fairly confident in my ability to get home dry. After all I'd only been out for about half an hour by this point. Half way home mum surprised me with the fact we had to go to the supermarket on the way home. I was not prepared for this! Had she told me we were doing that I'd have changed at nan's before we left! I have had issues with the nappies I'm currently wearing since they arrived. She drags me round the shop, taking longer and longer whilst my anxiety is growing. Got to the till, and whilst mum was paying. It happened. I flooded. Luckily I didn't end up stood in a puddle, but I did end up with matching wet patches on both bum cheeks. Thankfully I had black trousers and a bum length cardigan on, but to me at the time that didn't matter. I'd had an accident, and had to go home wet.

Now the nappies I got to try are the Attends Slip Active 10's and this is the reason why. This is what it says on the website...

IDEAL FOR PEOPLE WITH LITTLE OR NO CONTROL. That is why I got them! That and the fact it says they can withstand several gushes. This is not the first time I have had these nappies leak after the second wetting. I cannot afford to by anything else right now, so I have to make do, but I am sorely disappointed. Now it's back to the drawing board, trying to find a product that can actually cope with several full bladder voids. Although the leak in the grand scale of things wasn't very big, but I had only just got my confidence up to the point where I could go out and about and not have to worry about standing in a puddle in a public place. Now my confidence has been rocked, and needs to be rebuilt again.

I do I hope I can find something, preferably plastic backed that can cope. I cannot afford right now to change after every wetting.

Hi Cheryl, sorry to hear about your embarrasment. I guess all of us who need daytime protection fear this. I suggest you try Tena Maxi Pads as they work very well for me and have never leaked during the day.

Have you tried Abena or Molicare? I'm guessing both should be readily available in the UK.... Tena Slip Maxi is also a good one to use.

Abena M4 or L4 (4 means maximum protection, 4163 is the code for M4 in plastic. 43136 is cloth-like that leaks.), Tena Maxi Slip (plastic backing. Thin but very good for multiple floodings.), Euro-Briefs are very good in all sizes. All 3 of these are available in the UK and Europe. They are not cheap but the cost per diaper is offset by the fact that you don't need to change every wetting. You can go 4 to 6 hours without changing before being concerned about leaks.

Most seem to be going to cloth backed in the uk which is odd.

Any luck with your continence service?

I'm currently trying the abena L4, but unfortunately can't get hold of the plastic backed ones. I seem to be having awful trouble with the tapes on the cloth backed L4. I can either pull the tapes tight to get a good fit, but the tapes come off after a little while, or I do the tapes a bit looser, then have the nappy falling down! At the minute I'm using duct tape over the tapes to secure them. But other than the tape issues I seem to be getting on well with these. I'm debating trying the molicare, but again they have now switched over to cloth too, but I was told by the sales person that they don't have the same capacity as the abena, so I'm still in two minds as to whether to try them or not!

Personally I didn't find molicare anywhere near as absorbent although very comfortable. When I wore pads I found only abena m4 (l4) and tena slip ultima absorbed floods fast enough.

You can get abena L4, plastic backed, on Amazon for a reasonable price. Of course I'm in the states, are you located elsewhere?
