well doctors always will take the right measurements according with the case, if you just have bladder control problems or urinary incontinence, would just put you in a catheter during the healing process, if have also bowel problems then perhaps would put into a diaper, and would probably get into strong antibiotics for avoid the recurrence of infections in the surgical injury.

well always the doctors never take the option of diapers and just always to them look or see to the catheter as an way of management of this problem, which is probably true into the doctor eye´s but sometimes to some people their lifestyle do not fit the catheter as a way of manage this and probably would go to diapers.

perhaps need to discuss this issue or question with your doctor before of the surgery.
