It's not a matter of laziness or giving up. It is merely using an effective product (diapers) to control a situation and being able to get on with life.

I agree. I think a lot has to do with how a person feels about themself being incontinent and moving forward with life. For me, I really don't think about being incontinent any more ........when it happens it happens.

IMO, moving on with life is important than being worried about being incontinence. When your already incontinent and wear diaper for a real need,...... who cares if you could have made it to the bathroom in time? I gave up this effort a long time ago because most the time I never made it to the bathroom on time anyway.....plus there's no stress when your wearing protection and it happens. 
Everyone needs to do what they feel is best for them. In my situation, I don't worry about making it to the bathroom on time. I change in the day about every 6 hours and move on with life. I don't have any stress about the issue because I don't let it bother me any more. There's a lot more to life then worrying about being incontinent with all the what if's that go with it.

Good attitude, johnstone, a very good attitude! It's too bad many others find it difficult to adopt that attitude.
Perhaps it's more than diaper stigma...tho we know that remains a big deal. Maybe it's denial that we are, in fact, incontinent. And defining incontenence can be illusive....what one considers incontinence, another may not....hence the struggle to run to the bathroom and suffer the consequences of accidents because of not wanting to accept that we are incontinent and need to wear diapers in order to return to being "continent" and live a normal life free of the racing to the bathroom.

I may be wrong, but I don't think many people who suffer from incontinence for a long period of time ever return to being "continent" again. IMO (in my opinion), once someone accepts incontinence for what it is and moves on with life the biggest concern is no longer being incontinent,......its diaper rash.

I believe the term he was looking for is "social continence"... I.E not visibly wetting/soiling yourself while in public.

Joe that was well put as in my case would not accept that I was incontinence would scout out restrooms in advance and stuff paper towel in my underware if caught out and wet.Which in the long run was too nerve racking,now use diaper and move on with security.

After I became a incon due to prostate surgery I continue to wear and use a diaper at night even though I really only need it a couple of times a week. I was going to post the same question about using your diaper even though you don't need to. I know I wake up and have to go, I think why bother getting up out of an nice warm bed, so I just use my diaper. The same happens during the day, a restroom isn't around so I just let myself go. I find it very easy and I think I might have a hard time stopping, even if I could.

I suppose we all have used the convenience of wearing a diaper to a point. With me I don't "feel" the urge and have very little control of my bladder function due to nerve damage. I try to use a bathroom whenever possible but I also need to be prepared in case there isn't a bathroom around. When in the office or at home I can try and empty my bladder every so often but I've had enough "accidents" to know that I need to be wearing at least some sort of protection. I travel daily for my profession and even thought I know many places I can use a restroom along my travel routes I can't rely on always making it to one of them so I have to wear protection. Is that convenience? Maybe.
