Sometimes I really hate my life.

We did our cruddy little english muffins pizza for dinner last night. Didn't take care of the craving. Domino's here where I am has a take out deal I think for a large one topping for $5 and change. I might just have to get that for lunch today. Now, what to get for the topping?

We usually go with the Italian sausage & black olive, but I also like anchovies. My husband likes pepperoni, but I think it's kind of boring. I've never had a designer-type pizza with the white sauce or pesto, chicken, etc. I'm Italian and I grew up in Chicago. I remember the mom-and-pop pizza joints from when I was a kid, and to me, the "creative" toppings just aren't pizza, even though they likely taste great.

What is it about pizza that makes it so universally loved.

They put mind controlling drugs in the crust that makes you want to eat more and more.

But it's probably because pizza, esecially New York pizza, is a great food and often a comfort item. There is indeed something they do with the spices that makes people crave it.

Ha! My husband used to say that about a well-known fast food place. Also that the seats were tipped forward so that customers wouldn't hang around taking up space after they had finished eating. I think someone did a study a bunch of years ago and proved that the seats were tipped forward.

Even though I'm from Chicago, I have always preferred NY style pizza.

I'll be the first to say that I'm not a pizza snob. Even bad pizza, IMHO, is better than most food. But there is a pizza joint here in town that I missed terribly when I moved away. I lived in another city for 15 years and only got to come home once a year. But when I did come back, I absolutely had to have some of this pie.

But now that I live back here again, all bets are off, and I can have it anytime. Case in point: last night. My wife called on her way home and suggested that we get some delivered for dinner. Well, you didn't have to ask me twice. Spicy sausage, black olives, extra sauce, and extra cheese. O.M.G. I love that pie, heaven help me.

Wheels, I've never been able to make a pizza at home that measured up. Maybe I'll look for a used pizza oven on Craigslist.

We've tried many, many times, but we can't get it right, either. I like your idea about a pizza oven, RMS, although we'd have to put it in the garage - our kitchen is almost comically small.

we keep two round bread stones in the oven. if you pre heat the oven, and put a pizza on the bottom, already hot stone, you get an effect like a pizza oven. I just don't have the right dough recipe.
