I posted this question on another support group website, but thought I would get any suggestions from this group. I have needed to wear diapers for some time now, and have experimented with a number of combinations. I am wondering if it would be best to wear a thicker more absorbent diaper, or a thinner one and add a booster when necessary. If anyone here has any advice it would be greatly appreciated. What works best for you. Thanks.

During the day I prefer to wear a pull-up with a male guard pad which is a non-flow thru type. That way I can remove and replace the inexpensive pad quickly and easily as needed and even use the toilet "normally" when possible. I will keep an extra pad (or two) in a pants pocket and if I do use all the extra pads I can just use the pull-up as a last resort.
A premium quality diaper can last all day but I've found the problem to be the buildup of ammonia which will cause skin irritation well before the max capacity of the diaper is obtained. At night I use a tape-up type diaper with a cloth insert and a plastic pant covering as I often will not wake up when needing to "go" while sleeping.

Some manufacturers offer extremely heavy cloth nighttime diapers. I have tried them, and they work pretty much as advertised. However, wearing them long enough to take advantage of their full capacity invites rash, and they take much too long to launder and dry. I prefer multiple lighter diapers for those reasons.

Like @Padded53, I use pull-ups during the day because I find that more convenient for toilet use (including BM). I have tried a thin brief during the day but find that the shimmying to remove it is a nuisance/dangerous especially when the BM is urgent.
