A few days ago, I faced another episode of "agony of defeat". I had diarrhea happen in a grocery store. Try as I might, I could not stop it. All I could do afterwards was to stay calm, quickly use the self checkout for the 3 items I had, and drive home. Even though I use chlorophyl capsules, there was a noticeable smell. I keep a green garbage bag in the glove box for days like this to avoid leaks on the seat.

I have been taking whole psyllium husk reliably. But I figured out yesterday that I had stopped taking my usual slice of cheese at lunch time. Such a small thing but it made a difference.

I think that I will be investing in real rubber pants in 2025. I was hoping not to resort to this but I know that eventually my pull-ups are going to leak on me.

Wayne,

If you dont mind some advice, I would question the wisdom of using pullups for fecal containment. They have less surface area and padding than a full fleged diaper. At the very least, I would opt for a premium pullup that has leak guards. I know that with some of my bowel episodes, I would never consider using pullups. Pullups gap at the legs for me, always have.
Have you considered using tape on diapers even occasionally? The day may very well come where you are very glad you did.
Just a thought

Peace out!

Rob

Rob, you are quite right about that. I've tried briefs before in the daytime but find that it is inconvenient for toilet use. My U-IC is such that I usually make it ok in the day time. But my F-IC occurs months apart, usually.

The TENA Ultimate (sometimes the Overnight) pull-up does have leak guards, though not very high. So far, they have been "good enough", though I would say barely. I now have rubber (latex) pants that I wear over them, when I do more than a quick shopping trip. That should make the accident safer, should it occur again.

I have now switched to psyllium husk capsules, which I take in the morning. This works better for me than the whole psyllium husks. I am even starting to drink coffee again, which is a real blessing. Coffee is a careful experiment at this time, drinking it when I know I will be staying at home.

I appreciate your concern and your advice.

In addition to the protection I use, I take Nullo to manage odor. It does not work with the first dose, but over time it can be a life saver. As for coffee, I drink it black, and in large quantities. Drinking it carefully, as you are doing, is what I should do too, but I'm too addicted to the caffeine.

In Canada, I buy ChloroFresh, which is the same idea. I also drink my coffee black and 20 years ago used to have up to 6 cups per work day. 2-3 was more the norm however.

I am now craving a cup but I'll wait until I pick up my dear wife from the hospital appointment. There's no point in risking it.
