...must come to an end. In this case, my dry spell. Yep.. just when I thought I was on the verge of being able to wear undies full time at home.. This morning/afternoon at church (Mass starts at 11:30 am and ends at 12:30 pm, so its technically morning AND afternoon) Mr. Bladder tells me he's getting full. I'm like ok, lets go. I did not go when I first got the urge because I THOUGHT my bladder control was improving, right? I mean I was able to delay urination many times before with no issues. But a spasm showed me, nope, not so. And so I went. And did not quite make it to the toilet before the floodgates opened. This was a sensation that I had not experienced for MONTHS mind you. Looks like its time to take the oxybutynin again since my bladder is spasming a gain.

And if that wasnt enough, near the end of mass, I was leaking even more urine! Ugh.

And I just had a flood in the diaper just a few minutes ago when I got up from a nap to use the bathroom. Lovely.

I mean, none of this is unexpected or a surprise, it's just a bit of a let down. I thought I could be dry longer because of the pelvic floor thing.. I guess not.

I think pelvic floor weakness + bladder spasms = Rob wetting his pants/diaper. So, we will see if the oxybutin does anything. I just hope it doesnt make me constipated.. I JUST had a giant hemorrhoid on my backside go away.. sigh.

Peace out!

Rob

Your experience is too common among us. There is no substitute for a high quality diaper in such circumstances. Oxybutinin and pelvic floor exercises have limitations, as you discovered. I too have occasional "dry" days, but I do not trust them. Good luck, and keep us informed about your strugle; it informs us to the benefit of everyone here.

I've been dealing with incontinence for seven and a half years. At first it was mainly bedwetting and then shortly afterwards, I started losing control during the day. I've had all the tests and basically I was advised that there were no underlying problems other than the bladder muscles had weakened and the brain and the bladder were not communicating (if that's possible) resulting in loss of control. The bedwetting occurs about three or four nights a week and I very quickly accepted the fact that I would have to wear nappies every night. The daytime issues were a different kettle of fish. I had great difficulty in accepting or acknowledging the fact that it was a problem that needed addressing. Like you Rob, I had good spells when I didn't wee myself during the day for several weeks and I thought things were getting better and then Wham....here we go again!! Although the daytime issues only happen a couple of times a week, they can happen anytime from early morning until late at night. My wife who has been incredibly supportive since the beginning has said on numerous occasions that I should accept the fact that it's not going to get any better and that I should accept the fact that I need to wear nappies 24/7 without exception and is insistent that I do. A close friend said to me that I should treat wearing nappies during the day like an insurance policy. You don't always need it but you're sure glad you've got it when you do.

Since I began cardiac physical therapy back in August, I have frequent occasions when I uncontrollably wet my daytime protection. The therapists and nurses take it in stride, and just make me work harder. Daytime protection is an insurance policy and more. It enables me to function in public, to be acceptable to family and friends, and to meet my obligations.

I've resigned myself to wearing pull-ups daily as insurance against F-IC (diarrhea). I've been able to control that mostly with whole psyllium husk taken after breakfast each day. In the evening, I can also suddenly U-IC urge when I am tired, if I don't visit the toilet often enough. So I celebrate the days that I don't need them but don't fuss if I do. That's the nature of insurance.

My IC is blamed upon nerve damage due to diabetes glucose control issues over many years.
