Telling a Friend

I've recently read (and posted) in the "Who Knows" thread and it suddenly dawned on me that next week I'm probably going to be faced with telling one of my best friends that I have to wear incontinence protection. We're going to be sharing a hotel room for a full week at an out of town event and even though we've shared a room for a few nights before I suspect it's going to be difficult at best to keep my wearing secret for that long. I think that the more I've accepted and gotten use to wearing diapers I've gained confidence that it's just not that big of a deal that I have to wear different underwear than most. My friend is the same age as me and has a few medical issues of his own so I think that it just won't be that big of deal for him. I know for a fact that I'll be nervous before I tell him but I'm pretty sure that the reduction of anxiety will be well worth it. I'll let you know how it goes.

Good luck. Let us know how it turns out. I’ve also told a few close friends about my incontinence, and they’ve taken the news in a matter-of-fact way.

Well that was easy! :) Telling my friend about my incontinence turned out to be a breeze. On the long drive up to the event location we got into a discussion about healthcare and it just kind of morphed into a discussion about what coverage and doctors we had. I mentioned that I was starting to have more problems with my prostate (which he already knew about) and that I was having significant leakage issues. He then said in a fun sort of way that if I didn't watch out I'd be in "Depends" before I knew it. Well there was my opening and I said in a matter of fact sort of way that I already was in Depends, and in fact had one on. He didn't even blink and said that he already knew that I had to wear pads as he had seen some in my car glove compartment on a previous drive. At that point he went into some of his own medical problems and we kind of laughed about it all and agreed that it just comes with getting older. What a relief, and now that he knows about my situation it's sure going to make sharing the hotel room a whole lot easier.

Hi Padded53

Glad it went well, Next time you need to tell some one will be a bit easier as I have found after having to tell a few people talking about incontinence issues is no longer a big worry
