erythromycin cost

Fri Jan 12, 2018 1:05 pm

Although I may be the only one here who uses erythromycin, this could apply to just about any other generic medication. In the 1990s, erythromycin, 250 mg tablets, cost about $5.00 for a hundred or so. Erythromycin enables me to eat, and keep my food down. But now, it costs $5.00 per tablet, a 100 times increase. Even with good insurance, this is more than I can afford. I fear that, because competition cannot work to keep the cost of medicines in check, we could face a similar scenario for other generic medications. Incontinence? The metoclopramide which I use to replace the erythromycin simply does not work; it causes colon blockages and frequent fecal accidents, as the diarrhea that builds up behind the blockage(s) seeps around it(them) and leaks out, sometime with a gush.
