I started on the cefalexin antibiotic on Monday in preparation for my first ever SP change which I have had this morning. The nurse arrived on time and I indicated I was more anxious about this change than I ever was with the urethral one. I mentioned about only filling the balloon with 5 ml as advised by the consultant and told her about how he had taken out about 3 ml last month and she was fine with this. I checked she was going to make a mental note of how far the old one was inserted so as not to put the new one in to far and she said that was what she always did so I left her to it. She deflated the balloon but only got 3 ml out so its just as well the consultant only took 3 ml out last month or the thing might have come out. She put some lube in. She twisted the tube a few turns and then slowly pulled it out. I did not feel very much at all certainly no pain. It was in a bit more than I thought it would be. She then took the new cath and started to insert. I felt a sharp quick pain in my penis at one point and it was all done. Far less uncomfortable than having one inserted in the penis. I had expected more urine to come out of the hole when the tube was taken out but this did not happen just a small amount. I thought it might be like a fountain. All in all it was not a bad experience.

Just need to stay infection free now for the next few days and I should be fine. This is the danger time for me from past experiences but hopefully the antibiotic will have done the trick.

Will post again if it all goes wrong so no post is good news.

Tubes going into your body, where ever they may be, are never fun. Glad it went good for you! :) Puffy

Sounds like you had a nurse who knew what she was doing and took her time. Glad it went well for you.

Glad it went ok. I was wondering if suprpubic changes were easier as I find urethral ones really painful.
