weird

Thu Jul 18, 2019 5:01 pm

I just returned from my annual urologist's appointment. The doctor and his assistant put the scope feed on the bedside video. They pointed out my urethra, prostate, urinary sphincter and bladder. Being able to see the inside of my body in real time, living color was a strange experience. The bottom line is that my prostate will need to be reamed out again, and the sphincterotomy is slowly growing shut, so I'll probably need to have both done next year. Which will be soon enough for me.

Thanks for letting me vent.

I'm not sure I understand why your prostate needs to be "reamed out again". Wouldn't having it removed solve some problems? I was experiencing a number of bladder issues/incontinence before I had the green light procedure on the prostate. That lasted only a few years, and my problems kept getting worse. So, I had a complete prostatectomy combined with a diverticulotomy. I was just getting tired of continued invasive tests. The incontinence continues, but no more probing and prodding.

My understanding is that it is growing shut, so the standard treatment, here, is basically a high-tech roto rooter.

That would be fascinating to be able to watch along with the doctor and see what he/she is seeing. Good luck, Patrick!

I watched both of my cystoscopies. The human body is fascinating.

I wasn't brave enough to watch mine. I've watched several colonoscopies, but I was too freaked out about the scope in me to look at the inside of my bladder.

I watched my urologist on the scope until he had to enlarge the opening at the base of the prostate. Effectively a "jamming" operation to make the incision. I felt like I needed to bite on something, ouch -- but nobody got bit in the process.
