Tomorrow I will be having a uroflo test. From what I understand you have to have a real full bladder for this test. I really can't hold it for very long, and wear a diaper a lot of the time. Should I wear a diaper? What happens if I wet before the test? Is it invalid, and I will have to start over at another time?

That happened to me several times. The technicians simply inserted a Foley and filled my bladder as much as they needed to for the test. Good luck and report back.

Definitely wear a diaper if that's your norm. They don't bat an eyelash at seeing somebody in a diaper. They see it all the time. Only once did I have a urologist ask me "why are you wearing THAT!!!???" I was horrified but maintained my composure. I said "so I don't wet my pants" he was an asshole and I quickly found a new doctor. Anybody who is a true professional may ask you about them, but many say nothing and go on with the exam. As far as I recall, the uro flow is easy. You just pee into a special toilet and it measures flow rate, total void, time, etc......it's pretty interesting to see the results.

Hope the test went or goes well, and let us know! :)

I finally got the results from my uroflow test. When I went in to have it done, I nearly filled the beaker before I was finished; or at least thought I was finished. When the nurse did an ultrascan of my bladder afterwards, I still had close to 300 ml. in my bladder. Now, my next appointment with the urologist isn't until Dec. 28. I'm not sure what he will say, but do not want to get into the catheter routine. I tried that once after my green light surgery 7 yrs. ago, and it was a disaster. I'm almost ready to agree to surgery and be done with it. I have worn some kind of protection for quite some time now, and it's not that bad. It seems a lot more discreet than having a catheter, and more comfortable. At least with diapers I can go on with a fairly normal day.

dp66,

You hit upon the deciding advantage of diapers over the other management techniques. Kudos. Keep us informed.

Here we go again. I had the urodynamics test done a while back, and then the cystocopy about a month ago. It was determined that my prostate had some regrowth since my green light surgery, and that they could see 3 diverticulum...2 small and one quite large. I was then referred to another specialist where a team of consisting of a nurse, nurse practitioner, and a student came in to the exam room and asked me the same questions that I have answered numerous times. They then did a ultra sound and it revealed over 300ml. As a result, I will be having another urodynamics study with exrays and cystocopy the end of this month. The team indicated that their tests are more detailed and complete. In the mean time, they talked me into, reluctantly, how to self cath. I did it once, and it was not a pleasant experience. The urodynamics test require you to have a full bladder. The drive to the hospital that I will be having this test is an hour and a half away. How am I suppose to accomplish that I wonder??? I am just about to tell everyone to go take a hike. I seem to be managing by wearing diapers just fine. I do, however, worry a little about my kidneys. So, that's the latest... still no answers, or ways of treatment.

Dp, I've had the same problem with showing up with a full bladder, and otherwise peeing on demand for a urine sample. It eventually got to the point where I just started to immediately interject and tell them right off, that wasn't even possible for me.

Truth be told, I've found out it doesn't even really matter to them that much. They just want you to show up full so they can do another flow test (pee in the funnel). That's it.

And if you need to provide a urine sample you can get a sample cup ahead of time and catch/fill what you can at home. For me this mean sitting for a while as I slowly drain into the cup instead of my diaper. It sure beats trying to use a penis clamp at least, now those really start to hurt after 10 minutes and will even turn you purple. I do not recommend anyone go that route.
